The Institute of Cemetery and Crematorium Management (ICCM) has announced that Mathew Crawley has been named its new chief executive, as current CEO Julie Dunk is due to retire in March.
Following an “extensive” interview process, current deputy chief executive Crawley has been chosen and will start in his new role on 1 April 2025.
He brings over 25 years of experience in the bereavement services sector, having progressed from a funeral director to a cemetery, crematorium and bereavement services manager, to many other service-specific roles in between.
Having been the deputy president of the ICCM from 2016 to 2017, Crawley stepped down from that role to join the institute’s officer team full time as its technical and member services offer, in which he assisted like-minded professionals through training and mentoring.
As the ICCM’s new CEO, Crawley will build on that experience, as well as represent the bereavement sector at government level and develop new initiatives for ICCM members.
Outgoing CEO Julie Dunk said: “It has been a real pleasure to work with Mathew for the last nine years and I’m delighted that he is going to take over from me when I retire. He has a lot of knowledge, skills and experience and is absolutely dedicated to the bereavement services profession and to the ICCM.
“I know he will continue with developing the ICCM as an excellent member organisation, which in turn will ensure that bereaved people receive the services they deserve.”
Crawley added: “As I step into this role, I am filled with a sense of pride and responsibility, eager to build upon the solid foundation established by my predecessor, Julie Dunk. Julie’s dedication and contributions over her years with the ICCM have been instrumental in shaping the organisation into what it is today. I know I speak for many when I express heartfelt gratitude for her service and wish her a well-deserved and fulfilling retirement.
“I firmly believe that the ICCM’s strength lies in its members and their unwavering commitment to serving the bereaved with compassion, professionalism, and integrity. Together, we can build on the achievements of the past and embrace the opportunities of the future.”
