Scotmid Co-op has announced the appointment of Nick McLaughlin to the newly-created position of chief operating officer of funerals.
McLaughlin, who brings two decades of experience in the funeral industry, previously held the role of managing director at Fosters Funeral Directors, which was recently acquired by Scotmid.
As COO of the funerals division, McLaughlin will be responsible for overseeing the integration of Fosters, ensuring a seamless transition, and driving continued growth and innovation within the division.
He has also held various leadership positions, notably at Co-op Funeralcare, where he progressed from his early role as a crematorium technician to funeral director and eventually to head of operations, strategy and transformation.
According to Scotmid, McLaughlin’s comprehensive understanding of both at-need and pre-need services makes him “uniquely qualified to lead the division during this pivotal time”.
Karen Scott, CEO of Scotmid, said: “We are delighted to welcome Nick to the Scotmid family. His deep industry knowledge and proven track record of leadership will be invaluable as we navigate this exciting new chapter, particularly following our recent acquisition of Fosters.
“I am confident that Nick’s innovative approach and commitment to excellence will drive the continued growth and success of the funeral division.”
McLaughlin added: “I am excited to join Scotmid and work alongside such a talented team. This is a critical and exciting time, and I look forward to contributing to future success.”
