Head of Scotmid Funerals undertakes monster challenge for Maggie’s
James Blackburn, head of Scotmid Funerals, has completed the Monster Bike and Hike, a gruelling charity challenge through the Scottish Highlands, for Maggie’s Centres.
James, who was joined by 14 fellow team members from Scotmid, cycled 31 miles from Fort William to Fort Augustus and then hiked 41 miles along the Great Glen Way to Inverness. The team raised £11,500 for Maggie’s, which was more than double their target of £4,500, during the event which took place from 4 to 5 May.
“There was a great team spirit on the route. Crossing the finishing line was such a great feeling. I was relieved we’d made it,” said James.
The Maggie’s Monster Bike and Hike is made up of gold, silver and bronze challenges: a 31-mile cycle followed by a hike to Invermoriston (nine miles – bronze), Drumnadrochit (23 miles – silver) or Inverness (41 miles – gold).
Gemma Branney, senior corporate fundraising manager for Maggie’s, said: “The support we have received from all of the staff and customers at Scotmid has been fantastic; it is only with support like this that we can open the doors to Maggie’s Centres.”
