FD clocks up 30 years’ service
A funeral director from Caerphilly is celebrating his 30th year of service at the town’s Co-operative Funeralcare.
Paul Matthews, 48, started out in the industry at the then independent Ivor Evans Funeral Directors as a driver/bearer in 1982. Two months later, the business was acquired by the Co-operative Funeralcare’s antecedent body, CWS.
Matthews achieved his diploma in Funeral Directing from the National Association of Funeral Directors in 1986 and was subsequently promoted to funeral director.
“I get a great deal of satisfaction helping families during some of the most difficult times of their lives,” said Matthews.
Manager of the Co-operative Funeralcare Gail Williams commented: “Paul has been a valued member of the team and of the local community for 30 years. He is a highly committed, extremely hard working and dedicated funeral director.”
Matthews continued: “I’ve seen a lot of changes over the last 30 years. When I started funerals were all very similar, whereas nowadays people want to make them different to reflect the life of their loved one.”
“Since joining the Co-operative Funeralcare, I have never looked back,” he concluded.
