Westerleigh begins work on latest Scottish crematorium
The focal point of the development is a modern chapel which can seat 120 people, with significant additional standing room available
Westerleigh Group has begun work on building the new Bishopbriggs Crematorium to the north east of Glasgow, which is due to open this winter.
The new crematorium, which is being built mid-way between Bishopbriggs and Kirkintilloch, will provide a “peaceful and beautiful” setting and will be equipped with the latest technology and high-quality facilities.
The focal point of the development is a modern chapel which can seat 120 people, with significant additional standing room available.
There will also be 80 standard parking spaces, an overflow car park, seven accessible parking spaces, three taxi spaces and electric vehicle charging points.
Bishopbriggs Crematorium will be Westerleigh’s fourth Scottish site, joining Borders Crematorium, Stirlingshire Crematorium and West Lothian Crematorium.
Westerleigh Group prides itself on providing exceptional care to the bereaved, the standards of which are regularly inspected by the Scottish Government and the Federation of Burial and Cremation Authorities (FBCA).
The group is also an associate member of the National Society of Allied and Independent Funeral Directors (SAIF), a supplier member of the National Association of Funeral Directors (NAFD) and a member of the Funeral Suppliers’ Association (FSA).
Ed Lane, operations director at Westerleigh Group, said: “This modern crematorium will be one of the most environmentally friendly in the UK, featuring the very latest advanced filtration and abatement technology. To reduce the crematorium’s dependency on external sources of energy, solar photovoltaics and crematory heat recovery systems are being installed.
“We are very much looking forward to serving people from the communities in and around the Greater Glasgow area and bringing our exceptional level of care and standards to them.”
He added: “We proudly ensure that every service is delivered with respect and dignity, leaving mourners with comforting memories from their loved one’s final journey.”
