William Hall Funeral Directors plans for new crematorium

William Hall Funeral Directors has announced plans to build a new crematorium on the Isle of Wight, according to the BBC.

The funeral directors are currently one of two only on the island that are operated by the council at Whippingham.

The BBC reported that William Hall has submitted plans to the council to add a crematorium facility to the service building in Newchurch.

Planning permission was reportedly granted back in 2016 however the initial idea has changed allowing more distance between local homes and the planned crematorium according to the Local Democracy Reporting Service.

The new building venue will be able to hold 150 people for services, including non-religious ceremonies.

Within the planning application, the BBC reported that a license will be required to control the “level of emissions” from the crematorium as well as measures to ensure safety whilst respectfully making sure smoke from the chimney would not be visible.

The BBC added that the new crematorium would help decrease the number of “unacceptable” delays created in ceremonies and the number of overlapping groups of mourners.

The plans for the new crematorium are currently open to “public consultation” until 29 January 2021.
