It was panto time in Oxford just before Christmas, when the Oxfordshire Freemasons entertained local disabled and disadvantaged youngsters with a fun-filled free performance of children’s favourite Cinderella.
Colourful Coffins’ Kevin Tomes donned full make-up, wig and costume as one of 12 pantomime dames and everyone worked hard to ensure the audience had a great time.
The pantomime was laid on especially for over 400 youngsters who might not otherwise have been able to attend; and they were joined by parents, carers and families from hospitals, hospices and schools throughout the county – making sure it was a full house at the city’s Playhouse Theatre.
Kevin said: “It was a wonderful afternoon and thanks must go to all our fellow Freemasons and Lodges who supported the project by making donations and giving their time. We did everything we could to make the children feel special on the day and to see the enjoyment and laughter on their faces made it all worthwhile.”
Also joining in the fun were Oxfordshire’s Mayors, civic leaders and the Lord Lieutenant of the county. Afterwards, Norman MacRae, the leader of West Oxfordshire District Council, said: “Once again it is wonderful to see so many young people enjoying themselves at this festive time of year, it’s a particular joy for everyone of all ages and cultures to join in the likes of a traditional pantomime.”
This is the fourth year running that the Oxfordshire Freemasons have organised a pantomime. All the children received a free ice cream and had a special meeting with Father Christmas and his helpers, where they were given a goody bag.
