Funeral wake violence mayhem as four people are rushed to hospital
A Paisley funeral wake descended into violence as four people were taken to hospital following a mass brawl.
Police had reports of a large-scale disturbance in Argyle Street on Saturday night with mourners fighting in the street.
Neighbours said the pavements were covered in blood as four people were rushed to hospital – including three with stab wounds, reports the Daily Record.
A woman and three men aged between 19 and 23 were treated at the Royal Alexandra Hospital and later released.
It’s thought that the group had gathered at a flat in the street following a funeral during the day, but police have no idea what sparked the mass brawl.
They spoke to around a dozen guests at the scene but hope more people will come forward to shed light on the disturbing incident.
A neighbour, who asked not to be named, revealed how he spotted “blood all over the pavement” as cops swooped on the street.
He told the Paisley Daily Express: “I’ve been told it was a party that got out of hand.
“There were police all over the place and forensic guys were going inside. They were standing at the end of the road making sure nobody was coming or going.
“The police were coming out the close with bags and bags of stuff and carrying it away. There were puddles of blood outside, it looks like it must have been pretty bad.”
Detective Inspector Sandy Nelson at Paisley police office says his team is investigating the incident and encourages anyone with information to come forward.
He said: “This was a serious disturbance which resulted in four people requiring hospital treatment. There were a range of injuries to those involved, including lacerations to the head and body.
“It appears that guests had been at a funeral during the day and things have got out of hand throughout the evening. We would would urge anyone who was at the party and may have information that would assist our inquiries to contact police.
“I would also urge anyone who was in the area at the time and might have seen anything to get in contact.”
