New Scottish president of SAIF announced

An Edinburgh based funeral director, Mark Porteous of Mark Porteous Funeral Directors, has been appointed as the new Scottish president of the Society of Allied and Independent Funeral Directors (SAIF).

Mark has been working in the funeral industry for over 25 years and set up his own company in 2006. Mark Porteous Funeral Directors, which he runs with his wife and son, now has six branches across Edinburgh.

In his new role as Scottish President of SAIF, Mark will be the voice of independent funeral directors in Scotland, ensuring the profession is consulted and represented over proposals to licence and inspect Scottish funeral directors.

He will also be travelling to meet and listen to the views of individual members.

Mark Porteous commented: “SAIF members, through our Code of Conduct, are committed to high standards and to clear pricing, including the offer of a simple, low cost funeral option. Our members are typically small, family owned funeral firms which have been providing a high quality, personal funeral service to their local communities for generations and I will be working hard to ensure that any changes to the industry will ultimately benefit the public who choose to use a SAIF member.”

Terry Tennens, chief executive of SAIF, added: “Mark has been working as a funeral director all his life and his experience will make him a fantastic representative for our members in Scotland.”
