Volkswagen Funerals use ‘Wacky Rally’ to raise money for 7-year-old
On June 23, Volkswagen Funerals start a four-day drive across the Alps, as part of the Wacky Rally.
Clare Brookes, Michelle Orton and friends Lesley Sheppard and Martine Smith will cross Europe in a Muppet-themed car alongside other imaginatively decorated vehicles.
The team hopes to create great memories for Lesley, who has been diagnosed with terminal cancer. They also aim to raise the £4,000 needed to buy medical equipment for local seven-year-old boy, Jayden.
Jayden was diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis at just six weeks old. He currently undergoes painful physio several times a day in order to breathe. Jayden, who loves superheroes, needs a vibration vest to keep his chest clear. All money raised will go towards this goal.
As a condition of the rally, the car used may cost no more than £300. The team has decorated a Fiat Multipla to create ‘Kermit the fiat’. They will begin the rally in Lille France, travelling 500 miles through France, Belgium, Luxemburg, Germany and Switzerland. They then head to Livigno through the Alps, Cortina through the Dolomites and finally to the rally’s ends at Rimini Italy.
All four will travel home via Austria, Germany, Belgium and France, as Lesley is not able to fly.
