Nottinghamshire funeral director is elected president

A Nottinghamshire funeral director is following in her father’s footsteps after she was elected president of the local branch of the industry’s association.

Joanne Hutsby, a partner in Gillotts Funeral Directors, is only the second woman to be appointed president of the Nottingham and Derby Funeral Directors Association, the local branch of the National Association of Funeral Directors.

Her father, Barry, is a former president of the branch, which represents around 50 funeral firms across the region, while a third funeral director at Gillotts, Alan Winfield, is also a past president, having held the position in 2000.

As president, Joanne will represent the local NAFD branch and also chair the branch’s meetings. She said: “I am very proud to be following in my father’s footsteps by being elected president of the Nottingham and Derby Funeral Directors Association.

“Our industry has changed dramatically over the past few years and continues to evolve thanks to the increased individuality of funeral services and in response to challenges such as the rising cost of burial and cremations.

“It is very important that our members meet regularly to discuss how our businesses are approaching these issues, as well as sharing best practice and staying up to date with further changes both now and in the future.”
