Scotmid staff “honoured” to attend Cross Party Group reception at Scottish Parliament

Scotmid Co-operative representatives attended the Funerals and Bereavement Cross-Party Group reception at the Scottish Parliament on 14 November and were “honoured” to be a part of the key decision-making processes.

The Scotmid funeral directors, part of Scotland’s largest co-operative, sent 13 colleagues along to the session, which was organised by the National Association of Funeral Directors (NAFD) and sponsored by Dr Nanette Milne, to discuss the key issues in bereavement and the funeral profession in Scotland.

James Blackburn, head of funerals at Scotmid Co-operative Funeral Directors, said: “There is little doubt that the Cross-Party Group has increased awareness of the funeral profession and of the part it plays in all our lives.

“The issues discussed range from death certification and the work of the National Implementation Group, to discussing Social Fund funeral payments and the Welfare Reform Act. Scotmid Co-operative Funeral Directors are honoured to be able to contribute to this important forum as a member of the Cross-Party Group.”
