Darlington funeral director sponsors two local sports teams

A Darlington funeral director has sponsored two sports teams in the local area to extend its involvement within the community.

Saint and Forster Funeral Directors has stumped-up £500 for the winner of the King of the River angling series on the River Tees and paid for polo shirts for members of the local bowls club.

The cash prize will be awarded this month after a series of competitions held across five events by the North Yorks and South Durham Anglers in both team and individual events, and the funeral director has also funded 20 polo shirts for the Brinkburn Dene Bowling Club, in Darlington.

Keith Munt, director of Saint and Forster, said the firm’s involvement within its community shows that it is always looking to support the people it serves.

“Angling is the most popular participant sport in the country and the bowls clubs are at the heart of their communities, so we felt that each was extremely appropriate for our support. We are also passionate about environmental issues, and both sports, especially angling, help to protect and preserve a healthy environment for us all to enjoy.”

Ray Bower, secretary of the Brinkburn Dene Bowling Club, said: “We compete in the Darlington and District Veterans’ League. We have always had to buy our own polo shirts in the past and, with all of us being pensioners, it was sometimes a struggle because of the cost involved.

“We are very grateful to Saint and Forster for their support. The polo shirts have served us well this season and will do so for a good few years to come,” he added.
