Waseley Hills Crematorium opens its doors in the West Midlands

The site hosts parking for 120 cars, with overflow areas available if required, and the chapel can seat up to 105 guests with additional standing room

The Westerleigh Group has announced that its newest site, the Waseley Hills Crematorium, has officially opened its doors to the communities of South Birmingham, Bromsgrove, Redditch, and other parts of north Worcestershire.

Located on the adjoining Waseley Hills Country Park at the edge of Birmingham, the new site comprises “state-of-the-art” facilities set in secluded grounds.

The chapel was designed with a curving form, vertical timber clad elevations, a living green wildflower roof and natural materials carried through internally.

Additionally, there is parking for 120 cars, with overflow areas available if required, and the chapel can seat up to 105 guests with additional standing room.

Meanwhile, media facilities include an “extensive” music library, live webcasts, two tribute screens within the chapel and speakers outside to enable larger congregations to participate in the service.

The site also incorporates environmental features as well as protecting and creating new wildlife habitats, retaining trees, and enhancing native planting of new trees and shrubs.

Environmental credentials include advanced filtration and abatement technologies, and other features to minimise emissions include being one of a small number of facilities in the UK to have NOx abatement.

The Westerleigh Group said that unlike many local crematoria, standard service times are offered at one hourly intervals to ensure families have privacy and are not rushed.

Joy Edgington, site manager, said: “My team and I are looking forward to providing vital support to the community so that our very uniquely-designed facility will soon become the crematorium of choice for families near and further afield.”

Debbie Smith, Westerleigh Group’s chief executive officer, added: “It’s been a privilege to be able to oversee the opening of this state-of-the-art facility so early on in my role as the CEO of Westerleigh Group.

“I am confident that Waseley Hills Crematorium will be a huge asset to the communities of South Birmingham, Bromsgrove, Redditch and other parts of  Worcestershire, extending our exceptional care and support to the bereaved families in this area.”
