Fosters names second winner of £1000 bursary scheme
Recipients, The Performance Academy is a drama and theatre school located in Glasgow
Fosters Family Funeral Directors has named The Performance Academy as its second winner of its £1000 Rutherglen Bursary Award Scheme – a community bursary scheme that provides funding to local groups.
Based in the south side of Glasgow the drama and theatre school is known for providing classes for all ages and putting on professional show productions throughout the year.
During the Covid-19 lockdown restrictions, the group has had to cancel classes over the past few months. The £1000 cash funding will allow the Performance Academy to run free summer workshops for local children.
With plans to begin classes once again on 26 April, the grant also ensures that the group has enough PPE and sanitiser stations, allowing all performers to practice in a safe and socially distant manner.
Terry Buchan, area manager at Foster’s, said:“Our Rutherglen parlour receives regular requests for donations. We decided to create a dedicated community bursary to guarantee direct benefit to the local community.
“It’s been a challenging 12 months for everyone, but especially the kids, missing out on seeing their friends, taking part in group activities, and having fun. So, when The Performance Academy applied for the bursary and we heard about their plan for free summer workshops, we were happy to support them.”
