Funeral director’s community fund supports local causes

The aim of the initiative is to support causes led by people who ‘have a clear understanding of community issues and that address the needs of people in the local area’

Elizabeth Way and Company has given grants from its Community Assistance Programme to seven causes within three miles of its Greater Manchester funeral home

Having supported the people of Mossley since 2007, the company has invited local projects to apply for small grants from its Programme to “continue their outstanding work”.

According to the funeral provider, the aim of the initiative is to support causes led by people who “have a clear understanding of community issues and that address the needs of people in the local area”.

Among the successful applicants were the Power of Resilience CIC, which runs workshops and social events to support those facing adverse circumstances in life, Friends of Mossley Park to continue their work turning the area into a “renowned” beauty spot, and Veterans Tribe, which offers creative activities and social events for local veterans and their families.

Meanwhile, the Mossley Community Association to support their Mum’s Morning Meet Up initiative to help new parents socialise and access support, and George’s Kitchen – a community meal delivery service based at George’s Church in Stalybridge.

In addition, The Swan Team at Tameside and Glossop NHS Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust received a grant to help in its work providing compassionate support such as emotional support, practical assistance and the distribution of poignant memory boxes to those who have lost loved ones.

Earlier this year, the Programme also supported the Mossley Town Team by awarding money for a brass band to play during the annual Whit Walk – a traditional procession held at the end of May.

Ben McCutcheon, funeral director at Elizabeth Way and Company, said: “It has been great to hear from the people involved in these brilliant projects across our community.

“Giving them these grants is a great start, but we want to continue to work with them and support in any way we can to deliver these brilliant projects.”

He added: “We know the community spirit is strong in the area and I am excited to hear from more organisations we can support with our next round of funding.”

The latest round of the Community Assistance Programme is now open, with groups able to apply for small grants until the end of September.
