Coles Funeral Directors raises over £5k for miscarriage group

Coles Funeral Directors has raised over £5,000 for miscarriage and baby loss support network, Morgan’s Wings, during Baby Loss Awareness Week, which ran between 9-15 October.

Morgan’s Wings is a Cardiff-based group which supports those dealing with miscarriage and baby loss. It was set up by Jude and Geoff Davies in 2020 to provide the support they wish they had received when they experienced miscarriage.

In support of the group, Coles Funeral Directors launched a virtual triathlon covering the distance of the whole of the Welsh coastline – approximately 870 miles in length – over two weeks to help raise essential funds.

Completing the final few miles at an event held at its Birchgrove Funeral Home, Coles Funeral Directors exceeded its initial target of £2,500, raising over £5,000 which will help Morgan’s Wings deliver memory boxes and hospital care packages, and build a support network for those who have experienced a similar loss.

Jude Davies, co-founder of Morgan’s Wings said: “We’ve worked closely with Coles Funeral Directors for some time and when the leadership team approached us to kickstart this fundraising campaign during Baby Loss Awareness Week, we were completely taken aback.

“We know how important it is to have conversations around the grief and emotions that come with miscarriage and baby loss. So many of us don’t talk about it and there can be a lot of loneliness in that, which is why we were so passionate about setting up Morgan’s Wings. We couldn’t do this without fundraising support, and we’re thrilled with the final amount. Thank you, Team Coles.”

Francesca Coles, head of communications for Coles Funeral Directors, added: “We’re in awe of the work that Jude and Geoff do through Morgan’s Wings to support those who’ve experienced miscarriage and baby loss. We thought it was important to launch a campaign like this during Baby Loss Awareness Week to help encourage more open conversations around this topic, which we know many people can find challenging.

“We couldn’t have predicted how much support we’d receive from our friends, family, community, and social media followers which has enabled us to go above and beyond our original target. We hope that this will help support Morgan’s Wings as it continues its incredible work in the local community.”
