Funeral provider calls on employers to sign Armed Forces Covenant

Jennifer Ashe and Son, which employs ex-service men and women, signed the covenant in 2023 to show its dedication to supporting those who have served

Jennifer Ashe and Son has encouraged other businesses in the West Midlands to sign the Armed Forces Covenant in celebration of the upcoming Armed Forces day on Saturday 29 June.

The family-run funeral provider, which employs ex-service men and women, signed the covenant in 2023 to show its dedication to supporting those who have served.

Held each year on the last Saturday of June, Armed Forces Day is an opportunity to show support for those in the Armed Forces community, from those currently serving, to their families, other veterans and current cadets.

Funeral service operative at Jennifer Ashe and Son, Steven Matthews, is one of those staff who has a military background and has been with the family business since 2021, after serving for five years in Germany with the Royal Artillery.

Matthews said: “I could tell as soon as I became a part of the Jennifer Ashe team, that it was a business that really cared about its staff. There has been a big focus on our wellbeing and future prospects, and that was reaffirmed when the business signed the Armed Forces Covenant last year.

“The team has helped support me with my transition into civilian work life, making it enjoyable and rewarding in the process.”

John Ashe, managing director of Jennifer Ashe and Son, added: “It is a no-brainer to support our Armed Forces, from our active service men and women, to those who have served, such as Steven.

“This Armed Forces Day, we’re encouraging other businesses in the West Midlands to sign the Armed Forces Covenant too. It’s a very simple gesture and commitment that shows solidarity with and respect for those who have selflessly served our country and means as an employer you offer a welcoming and supportive environment to ex-service personnel.”
