Southwest Funeral Care named ‘low cost provider of the year’

The funeral provider, which first opened in August 2020, had ambitions from the very beginning to reduce the costs of funerals ‘in a dramatic way’

Plymouth-based Southwest Funeral Care has received the accolade of ‘low cost funeral provider of the year’ at the Good Funeral Awards 2023, which is run by the Association of Green Funeral Directors (AGFD).

The funeral provider, which first opened in August 2020, had ambitions from the very beginning to reduce the costs of funerals “in a dramatic way”. At the time of opening, director Paul Warren said he thought it was “about time” prices were addressed.

Warren said: “Lots of people are, I don’t want to say overcharging, but are charging far too much. We’re going to try and reduce the costs of a proper funeral. Myself, my daughter and one other are directors of it. It’s different to anything anyone has seen before, I think.”

A spokesperson for Southwest Funeral Care said: “The awards are chosen by public nominations made for the company, and to their delight they were notified that they had won the award.”

Stacey Warren, director at Southwest Funeral Care, added: “Opening a business during the pandemic was hard, but three years on we are truly humbled by the support of our families and our community. We pride ourselves on keeping funeral costs as low as possible.

“We provide a range of services, priding ourselves on giving personal attention to every funeral, which is tailored to your request. Our aim is to ensure that every funeral is arranged and carried out exactly as the family would wish down to the smallest detail.”

Southwest Funeral Care also provides an in-house laser engraving service for fingerprint jewellery, plaques and keepsakes.
