According to Leicestershire Live, police closed off the inner ring road as firefighters battled with the blaze in Vaughan Way at around 6pm just inches away from the front entrance to the funeral directors.
The flames spread to the building damaging the front door and lobby area as fire crews from Wigston and Southern attended the blaze.
Incident commander Greg Ayres, crew manager at Wigston fire station, told Leicestershire Live : “We believe the cause of the blaze was a mechanical failure in the engine compartment.
“The driver of the car was not here when we arrived. Nobody was, in relation to this vehicle. We have not been able to establish who the driver of the vehicle is and the circumstances of how this car ended up being here right by this building.”
They added: “Further fire damage to the building was prevented by rapid intervention by firefighters wearing breathing apparatus.”
