Golden Charter confirms sudden passing of CEO Charlie Norman

The group has expressed its gratitude for the huge impact Norman had had on the business and to the lives of all those with whom he worked

Funeral plan provider, Golden Charter, has announced the sudden passing of its chief executive officer, Charlie Norman, on Tuesday 27 August.

The group has expressed its gratitude for the huge impact Norman had had on the business and to the lives of all those with whom he worked, saying he had been “always positive, kind and engaging”.

Mark Huggins, chair of Golden Charter, said: “Our thoughts and sympathies are very much with his family at this incredibly difficult time. He will be remembered for his endearing sense of humour and devotion to his wife and children.

“Charlie was a dedicated and innovative leader who brought a wealth of experience to Golden Charter. He was committed to putting customers at the centre of the business and to driving positive change.”

He added: “Charlie was passionate about encouraging people to think about and discuss their end of life wishes. He successfully engaged and worked alongside our network of independent funeral directors to guide the industry forward towards a successful future.”

Norman was appointed CEO last year on 1 September, following the completion of the Financial Conduct Authority’s clearances.

Formerly finance director of the AA Road Services, Norman had a wealth of experience in leadership roles in regulated markets, financial services, insurance, training and education.

He succeeded Suzanne Grahame, who steered the business through digital transformation, responding to the Covid-19 pandemic and regulatory approval by the FCA over the last six years.
