Oak Hill Lawn Cemetery and Crematorium has been awarded the Green Flag, which officially recognises well managed parks and green spaces.
The Green Flag Award Scheme is run by the environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy, under licence from the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities, in partnership with Keep Scotland Beautiful, Keep Wales Tidy and Keep Northern Ireland Beautiful.
With the new crematorium scheduled to open in September, a lot of work has been done on the site in Hatfield recently, and it has now been acknowledged with the Green Flag Award.
Recently, executive member for Community and Leisure, Max Holloway, along with other councillors, visited Oak Hill to tour the grounds, including the newly built crematorium and gardens.
Paul Todd MBE, Keep Britain Tidy’s Green Flag Award Scheme manager, said: “I would like to congratulate everyone involved at Oak Hill in achieving a Green Flag Award. Oak Hill is a vital green space for the community in Welwyn Hatfield and staff do so much to ensure that it maintains the high standards of the Green Flag Award. Everyone involved should feel extremely proud of their achievement.”
Holloway added: “Oak Hill is a very special place, and we are delighted that we will soon be able to provide a wider range of cremation and burial options to meet the needs of our communities. We will shortly be announcing details about open days in September for residents to see our new facilities and meet the new, dedicated on-site team.”
