Crematorium donates £5k to charity
Christmas has come early for a Hertfordshire-based charity after it received a £5,000 cheque from Harwood
Park Crematorium in Stevenage.
The recipient of the donation was Crossroads Care Hertfordshire North, which provides support for unpaid carers and their families in the area through respite and homecare.
“We’re always delighted to support local charities and organisations who give much needed care to local families,”says Claire Austin of Austin’s Funeral Service, which owns and runs Harwood Park Crematorium. “I was thrilled to find out more about the amazing work Crossroads Care does and to present them with their cheque.”
The money raised was the result of Harwood Park’s membership of the Institute of Cemetery and Crematorium Management’s metals recycling scheme.
The scheme rewards crematoriums that recycle their unwanted metal – from coffins and orthopaedic implants – by passing on a donation to a nominated charity.
Since Harwood Park signed up for the scheme in 2006 it’s raised around £30k for local charities, including Road Victims Trust and Keech Hospice Care.
