Residents invited to cemetery open day
Members of the public are invited to attend an open day at Eccleshall Road Cemetery in Stafford on 7 June.
Bereavement Services are hosting a Community Awareness Day and they aim for “as many people as possible to visit on the day and share their views about the cemetery and its future development plans.”
Everyone is welcome on site no matter how close they live and work to the cemetery.
Colleagues from the Council who will be discussing the maintenance of the site, how new graves are prepared and there will even be a short walk.
In the afternoon (2.00 pm – 4.00 pm) the Council’s Bio-Diversity Officer will be available to discuss the varied wildlife inhabiting the grounds (and adjacent nature reserve.)
As part of the plans the cemetery has applied for Green Flag status but will not find out if it has been successful until July.
Howard Thomas, head of environmental and health at the Borough Council said: “I know an open day at a cemetery may seem like an unusual choice of day out – but it is an interesting and informative one.
“The aim of the day is giving people a chance to find out more about our Bereavement Services, as well as ask questions about the many different services we provide, without the emotional grief associated with losing a loved one.”
