Coast to coast cycle raises funds for Carers Trust

Keith Love and Joy MacQueen, who are based at the Co-operative Funeralcare in Blaydon, Gateshead, have cycled 140 miles from Whitehaven to Tynemouth to fundraise for Carers Trust.

Over the course of three days, the intrepid duo, along with friends raising money for their chosen charities, split the daily mileage to allow for comfort breaks along the route. They raised nearly £450 for Carers Trust, which is the Co-operative’s Charity of the Year.

Formed last year when the Princess Royal Trust for Carers and Crossroads Care came together, Carers Trust aims to tackle feelings of isolation and provide desperately needed breaks, information, advice and support for 14 to 25 year olds facing the challenges of caring.

With an estimated seven million unpaid carers across the UK, the Co-operative aims to raise money to transform the lives of the UK’s unpaid young adult carers, who are more than twice as likely to not be in education, employment or training, with many having not taken a break of two days or more since they started caring.
