Funeral Partners ‘united’ for Ghana
Funeral Partners Limited has been overwhelmed by the public’s generosity after launching a football kit appeal for underprivileged children in Ghana.
Posters were displayed in the windows of all Funeral Partners’ homes after a member of staff visited Ghana on business. Yorkshire operations manager Colin Muhl explained: “He saw that the children in the local villages were football crazy, but had no kit and had to play in their bare feet as they had no boots.
“So we launched an appeal to collect old football boots, shirts and kit for them, which has been an overwhelming success.”
All in all, the 70 funeral homes taking part in the appeal received 160 shirts, 118 pairs of shorts, 346 pairs of boots, 77 pairs of socks, two complete team strips and boots, four tracksuit tops, eight jackets, one large kit bag, 29 pairs of shin pads and 45 footballs!
Colin continued: “The response has been fantastic. People just kept bringing in their donations. They ranged from a lady who found a pair of boots at the bottom of her son’s wardrobe, to very large donations of balls, boots and kit from local clubs throughout the country.
“The owner of a business next to one of our funeral homes had nothing to donate so he went out and bought six brand new leather footballs. We are very grateful to everyone who has supported this worthy campaign.”
Donated items will be shipped out to Ghana in the next few weeks for use by the charity Teabag, in aid of the Education and Book Appeal.
