Two new funeral directors make grade in Scunthorpe
Two new funeral directors have been appointed at The Co-operative Funeralcare in Scunthorpe.
Jacqui Watson and Sarah Gabbitas started their new roles at the funeral home on Bottesford Road on Monday 12 March.
Former driver/bearer Watson from Messingham applied for the role after completing her Advanced Certificate in Funeral Services. The comprehensive qualification covers every aspect of the role including health and safety, caring for the deceased and visiting the deceased.
Watson worked as a nursery officer for North Lindsey College in Scunthorpe for 18 years before following her ambition to work in the funeral profession. She became a casual worker as a driver/bearer in December 2006 and began to study for her qualification when she became a full-time member of staff.
Watson said: “I always wanted to go into the funeral industry so I took voluntary redundancy. It’s not easy but I’ve worked really hard at what I do and I feel I’ve proved myself now I’ve got my qualification.
“Mark, the principal funeral director, and my manager, Lee, have been so supportive; they really encouraged me to go for it. Taking this step into funeral directing and helping families on the day of a funeral will be a privilege.”
Sarah Gabbits started to work with The Co-operative Funeralcare in September 2011, but previously worked for HMRC. Sarah is from a family of funeral directors so was keen to follow them into the profession.
Manager of the funeral home, Lee Stephenson, said: “We’ve got two very capable members of staff who I am pleased to work with and I know they will be of great service to the local community in Scunthorpe.”
