Clydebank bearer recognised for 20 years’ service

A funeral staff worker from Clydebank has clocked up 20 years’ service in his local community.
Douglas Jardine, 52, based at The Co-operative Funeralcare in Bogmoor Place, Shieldhall, began his 20-year career as a driver/bearer at a former The Co-operative Funeralcare base in Scotland Street, Glasgow.
Although Douglas is based in Shieldhall he serves all of The Co-operative Funeralcare’s 27 funeral homes across the city according to demand.
In recognition of his service Douglas was given a Long Service Award certificate and some electric appliances as a gift.
Before he entered the funeral profession Douglas worked in the paper store in The Co-operative Printworks feeding paper into the machines.
Douglas said: “In the last 20 years the job has changed in quite a few ways but the biggest change is the introduction of an on-call service which means we are available to help families 24 hours a day.
“Being a driver/bearer means I get to help the bereaved when they need it the most. I enjoy working with people and think of myself as a good communicator.”
