Bereavement service Settld picks up accolade at StartUp Awards

As a service of The Estate Registry, Settld aims to build efficient bereavement services for those who have to navigate end-of-life admin

Bereavement notification service, Settld, has been named the top ‘UK Mobile and Emerging Technologies StartUp of the Year’ at the 2024 UK StartUp Awards.

Settld, which became a service of The Estate Registry earlier this year in June, was also selected as a national finalist in a separate category at the StartUp Awards.

As a service of The Estate Registry, Settld – along with sister service NotifyNOW – aim to build efficient bereavement services for those who have to navigate end-of-life admin.

Settld’s free and secure service allows users to notify more than 1,400 service providers of a death in one go – from banks and insurers to energy firms, mobile and phone providers, subscription services, social media platforms and others.

Luke Cheadle, head of operations at The Estate Registry, said: “We are delighted to see Settld recognised in these awards. Congratulations to all those who took part in the competition.

“Our purpose is to simplify end-of-life admin and to be a strong voice for bereaved consumers everywhere. Recognition by the judges gives us fresh ambition to make things easier for all families dealing with the death of a loved one.”

Vicky Wilson, who founded Settld four years ago and is now chief customer officer at The Estate Registry, added: “This award is a real testament to the hard work, dedication and compassion of our team. We are thrilled to be recognised at the UK StartUp Awards.

“Settld was born from personal experience of loss and out of frustration at the difficulty of tying up loose ends with service providers. As part of The Estate Registry, we are continuing to build on our services for those who struggle to navigate end-of-life admin when handling the affairs of someone who has died.”

Over 800 startups competed for national recognition in over 35 categories in this year’s awards ceremony, which was hosted at the Ideas Fest event in Hertfordshire.

The StartUp Awards are billed as a celebration of innovation and entrepreneurship amongst early stage businesses, and offer startups “an opportunity to build brand visibility and make industry connections”.

Winners are chosen by a panel of judges from industry, academia and investment groups, in a selection process based on factors such as innovation, scalability, societal impact and financial performance.
