Parc Gwyn Crematorium submits plan for stone memorial garden

It is understood from the supporting statement that Parc Gwyn aims to allow nature to thrive within the monoculture pasture

Parc Gwyn Crematorium in Narberth, Dyfed, has filed planning permission to build a new memorial garden that features a stone megalith “in a more natural setting”.

The crematorium, which is owned and operated by Pembrokeshire County Council, is also seeking permission to repurpose the agricultural land adjacent to its parking, an entrance canopy to the memorial garden, two shelters, seating, footways, bird nest box poles and landscaping.

According to the application’s supporting statement, Parc Gwyn intends to create a garden that provides a nature-rich experience “for those wishing to gather, reflect and remember”.

What’s more, the memorial garden would be an extension to the facility’s outdoor space, which is currently available for families, that offers provision for burial of ashes and provides memorials.

It is understood from the supporting statement that Parc Gwyn aims to allow nature to thrive within the monoculture pasture.

In addition, the shelters, seating and memorials within the garden will be designed to fit with the setting of a natural garden, and as such, will be of wood and stone “in a rustic style”.

Parc Gwyn maintains that the majority of the site will also remain as open space to “preserve the natural character” and provide ample room for memorial activities.

Pembrokeshire County Council is expected to consider the application at a later date.
