Westerleigh to submit plans for new Stroud crematorium

The proposed plans have outlined what will be ‘one of the most environmentally friendly’ crematoria in the UK

Westerleigh Group intends to submit a planning application to Stroud District Council in the coming weeks for a new crematorium on a 9.2-acre site just west of Eastington and south of Gloucester, along the A38.

According to the funeral provider, the site has been “carefully” chosen to be accessible to families within Stroud and the wider Gloucestershire area, while at the same time providing “a beautiful, secluded and tranquil setting”.

The proposed plans have outlined what will be “one of the most environmentally friendly” crematoria in the UK.

In addition, the location of the site and the design of the modest chapel building aims to minimise any visual impact of the proposal on the local communities.

During the design process, paramount importance was placed on the quality of the visitor experience, Westerleigh has said, and the new facility will nestle into the wider landscape and boast a series of open spaces.

Local funeral directors have welcomed the idea, outlining the need for a modern state-of-the-art crematorium to serve the local community.

Westerleigh Group has built its reputation on providing exceptional care to the bereaved, the standards of which are inspected by the Federation of Burial and Cremation Authorities (FBCA) in England and Wales, and the Scottish Government.
