Funeral director holds funeral at Burton football stadium

The Pirelli stadium often holds wakes and Murray’s managed to convince the club to allow the service to take place at the stadium

Murray’s Funeral Directors has successfully held the first ever funeral service at Burton Albion FC’s Pirelli stadium.

The service was held for lifelong Burton fan Ken Leech who passed away in December 2022.

The service included a Burton Albion picture coffin and the order of service was done in the style of a matchday program.

David Barke, director of Murray’s, said: ‘We had previously spoken to Ben Robinson to explore the possibility of facilitating funeral services for loyal and true supporters. We always strive to work alongside our families to find unique ways of celebrating their loved ones lives and were only too happy to liaise with Burton Albion for this special request.

“As a company we have used the Burton Albion logo on our coffins for supporters. We were however thrilled to be able to offer the bespoke design of the Pirelli Stadium, we also wore our Burton Albion ties and even the flowers were designed in Burton Albion colours.”

He added: “We are very often asked to conduct non-traditional style funerals in unusual settings and it was a privilege to be able to organise this service for Mr Leech and we hope this will be the first of many.”
