BIFD appoints national president

Mead and his wife, who is the company secretary, are currently responsible for the administration of the institute, as well as running Mead Family Funerals in Wroughton

The British Institute of Funeral Directors (BIFD) has announced the appointment of Jem Mead as its new national president in late October during the institute’s AGM and 40-year anniversary.

Mead first joined the BIFD as a student member in 2014 and gained his diploma in funeral service 11 months later.

Mead and his wife, who is the company secretary, are currently responsible for the administration of the institute, as well as running their own independent business, Mead Family Funerals in Wroughton.

In addition, it is reported that he has successfully trained as an accredited examiner, which “shows his commitment to the funeral directors of the future”.

The following 12 months are supposedly set to be busy for the Meads, as they have official engagements with Kindred Associations, Examinations, Board Meetings and CPD sessions, which all culminate in his AGM and Gala Celebrations in October 2023.

The BIFD was founded in 1982 and is reportedly one of the leading providers of education and Continuing Professional Development (CPD) within the funeral profession.

In addition to their free CPD courses, which enable practitioners to become eligible for the ‘Licence to Practise’ offered by the institute, they also provide two nationally recognised courses, the certificate in funeral service and the diploma in funeral service.

Both courses are accredited by the University of Greenwich.
