Co-op Funeralcare opens £2.8m care centre in Leeds

The centre, located in Cross Green, will feature ritual washing rooms so that cultural traditions and practises can be carried out in a private, modern and comforting environment

Co-op Funeralcare has announced the opening of a new £2.8m care centre in Leeds, which will care for loved ones from across Yorkshire.

The centre, located in Cross Green, will feature ritual washing rooms so that cultural traditions and practises can be carried out in a private, modern and comforting environment.

Loved ones will also be taken to the new care centre to receive the services they or their family have requested before being taken back to their local funeral home to rest until it is time for their funeral to take place.

The care centre will also act as an educational centre for those taking part in the funeral provider’s embalming apprenticeship, making it just one of Co-op’s three UK locations that offer educational facilities including Reading and Edinburgh.

Helen Chandler, head of operations at Co-op Funeralcare, said: “Our new care centre in Leeds will allow our colleagues across Yorkshire to have access to sector-leading facilities and provide the very highest standards of care, in a dignified and private setting, to loved ones who rest with us.

“Whilst plans for its launch were underway well before Covid took hold, the pandemic has certainly shone a light on the need for appropriate centres such as this, which can offer huge comfort to families who know their loved ones are being cared for in the best possible way, before their final farewell takes place.”
