Funeral directors ‘not disclosing’ service prices, says Which?
Research found directors were not disclosing the prices of their services transparently, despite warnings from the CMA
Funeral directors in the UK are not transparently disclosing the price of their services, according to new research from Which?
This is despite funeralcare providers being warned by the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA), which cautioned a lack of transparency regarding costs will hurt vulnerable people.
Which?’s survey found over a quarter (29%) of the 112 funeral directors did not include prices on their website.
Some 40 funeral directors presented package costs with a description of what is included but provided no further cost breakdown, with only 18 directors showing itemised price lists.
Furthermore, around a third of National Association of Funeral Directors (NAFD) members who were polled revealed that they did not disclose their pricing online.
In reaction to this, a spokesperson for the NAFD said: “We are reviewing the CMA’s draft Order in respect of online pricing to make sure we align our online member directory capabilities to the Order.
“We are likely to introduce enforcement on those provisions of our new Code in September, at the same time as the CMA’s requirements become law.”
